Rough Start Great Finish

Hey everybody check out this poem,
By John Bytheway.

Rough Start; Great Finish

Some people like to wonder

Why is my life so tough?
Mortality is full of trials
and every day is rough

They say "hey Lord, I'm bein' good
Why punish me with trials?
I thought that if I chose the right
I'd have a life of smiles"

So here's some things within a poem
We mustn't disregard
Which hopefully will answer
why our lives can be so hard

Nephi crossed a desert
to find a place to build a ship
I think we'd all agree
this was not a pleasure trip

A wilderness dark and dreary
lay before the tree of life
You must fetch Ismael's family
before you find your wife

A wilderness will always come
before the Promised Land
And before they sowed in dark rich soil,
They saw a lot of sand

The kind of things that they went through
we go through now today.
Here's 25 examples of how things can be that way:

You've got to eat your Cracker Jack's
before you get your prize,
You have to sit through drive-through
before you get your fries

I drove a Chevy Vega
before my Honda Prelude
I had to take my finals man
before I got my grade dude

Before the 80's music came
we had to go through disco
before the tephlon frying pan
We used to cook with Crisco

You do a lot of dating son
before you find your honey
Bank officers will check your past
before they loan you money

Endure the small apartment kids
before you buy a home
My Franklin planner weighed a ton
before I bought a palm

You have to pass the food court
before you reach the mall
and I was really really short
before I got this tall

It takes a lot of courage boys
to ask the girls to dance
without the risk of asking though,
you'll never find romance

The ugly duckling came before
the really pretty swan
you've got to pull the dandelions
to have a gorgeous lawn

It could take 300 Wonka bars
to find a golden ticket
To eat that pile of chocolate
boy, you've really gotta dig it

We shovel snow in winter time
before we get to spring
Some guys will sacrifice their jeep
to buy a wedding ring

It's half a dozen previews
and then the presentation
and only after 8th grade trials
comes high school graduation

airport security must be passed
before you find your gate
It's odd that much of traveling
is stand in line and wait

You've got to go in rush hour
Then you park in your garage
You have to do stuff for your wife
to earn a back massage

Hours of piano lessons came
before the big recital
The Cougars played the U of U
before they won the title

Perhaps I should get to the point
before this poem gets longer
I guess that what I'm trying to say
is that trials make you stronger

So when you have a problem
there's no reason to complain
It might just be that all that's wrong
is for your eternal gain

Next time a trial comes along
don't gripe or write a letter
Just see what's really going on
your problems make you better

I hope my amateurish poem
my point will not diminish
sometimes a rough start comes before
a really awesome finish.

So for this week I was sick and it rained, but there was supposed to be a bomb fire.
But I still have a scripture thought for all of you. : )

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Smile : )

Last wednesday, for mutual, all of the Mia Maids did a photo shoot. It was a lot of fun. My friend Angelica and I had a blast. Although we got a lot of pictures with us in it we weren't trying to we were just exploring our surroundings for different posses for all the other girls, but we got pictures of us anyway. Let's just say Angelica and I were the ones without the ideas when I came to group photos.
It's like my mom always asks, "Why are you girls are so pretty." My reply,
"Because Modest is the Hottest"

Cool scripture time!!!

Jacob 2:28

For I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women. And whoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts.

A Blast to the Past

This Wednesday's activity was very short seeing how the activities are usually 2 hours long. But after a couple weeks of vacation it was good to see my friends again, and to be at a church activity. Do you remember how I was telling you abou our treck, well all of us got a chance to see our pictures in a sideshow. I thought that was SOOO much fun seeing everybody's exhausted face after waking up at 2 in the morning. HA I'm still laughing about it now. :D  Then we had delicious cookies and lemonade, and simply went home.

swim party #2

Two weeks after our first swim party we had a second one, but the way I thought of this one was entirely different. I liked this mutual better not just because of the homemade ice-cream, but because it was just the Mia Maids who were there. (The Mia Maids are a group of girls 14-15.) Out of all of the girls in Mia Maids there, there were only 5 girls out of 10. So you can probably imagine what all of us did. There were girls flying of the diving board do everything but what I did. I got up onto the diving board, and waited for everybody's attention, I told them, "I want to do a front flip." Trembling from the wind and my fears of getting injured, one of my friends said, "If you do a front flip all of us will do one too." I sort of laughed inside, I looked down once more, and the next thing I know, I wake up in the ER, just kidding, water was splashing all around me. Now, full of adrenaline, I suffice the water along with so many bubbles. I glanced at my friends some of their mouthes were open. Finally Arielle, another friend,  exclaimed "I GIVE YOU A 10!!!" After me everyone else followed, we also played super fun games, ate extremely good homemade ice-cream, and had a slow walk home. I can't wait for another swim party next year.

Working At The Car Wash

As you may already know this event is going to be about a car wash we as
Young Women did together. So, there is a new girl in our ward and I had the opportunity to go pick her up and take her to mutual. We talked the whole way there, which I thought was great seeing how I could talk all day long. when we arived at one of our leader's houses the leaders prepared the soap for washing the cars, and supplied the means necessary to wash the car and dry it. We washed three cars, and talked, laughed, got wet, and had so much fun. In the end we signed thank you cards for the leaders who did the cooking at our girls camp. (don't tell anyone, but one of the leaders I like especially because she is our teacher for Sunday School) Just before the sunset, though, we all walked home together, and that's alI we pretty much did for mutual this week.

Today's lesson I learned about was service. Here is a scripture that I think defines the word, Servise.

                                                                    Mosiah 2:17

And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.

Having A Summer Splash

Getting a chance to soak in the sun is so much fun, and I especially think so for me because I would probably go swimming every day if I had the chance. So, for Mutual this week, like I said, we went swimming, and yes, it was a "BLAST." I got there in my Soccer t-shirt and some pants that matched, and underneath it all I was wearing my swim suit. When I got to our neighbors pool my friends were waiting for me by the edge of the pool. One of them said, "We didn't want to go swimming without you." That made me feel really special, which may sound cheesy, but it was a HUGE confidence boost.
I quickly jumped in and they quickly followed after me. After a while somebody asked my friend Erin, at least thats what I'll call her, if she could do a front flip off the diving board. Because of past experiences, she was nervous, but to my surprise Erin, and two other friends, did a few. Then another question arose right out of the blue to the same friend, "Can you do a back flip off the diving board?" and again to my surprise she did it while my friends stood on the side of the pool taking videos because she said, "I'm not doing it again." Then it was reaching that time to leave, and we quickly sang our song said a prayer and we all then departed.

Fortune Cupcakes

I am sorry for procrastinating, but I did have a lot of things I had to do before I could actually write in my blog.

Anyway, this week for our mutual activity we made sort of like fortune cupcakes  for camp. I have wrote the recipe below just in case you might have wanted  to make the
Mint Chocolate Chip Cupcakes. So, the fortune cupcakes are yes very much like fortune cookies, but they are cupcakes. All of the girls wrote super nice things that might happen in the girls future on a piece of paper and gave them to a leader. The leader then rapped that piece of paper in tinfoil then placed it in the core of the cupcake and put it in the oven. When it came time for us to leave we practiced our camp song which I have provided a website below just in case this one doesn't work. :-)

Mint chocolate chip cupcakes

Mint chocolate chip cupcakes

Yield: 24 cupcakes             Prep time: 20 minutes                 Cook time: 18-23 minutes

INGREDIENTS
For the cupcakes

1 (18.25 ounce) package devil's food cake mix
1 (3.9 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding mix
1 cup sour cream
1 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs, lightly beaten
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup warm water
1 1/2 cups Andes Crème de Menthe baking chips

For the Frosting

4 sticks (2 cups) unsalted butter, room temperature
1.5 pounds (28 ounces) confectioners' sugar, sifted
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
3-4 tablespoons heavy cream
green gel dye
1/4 teaspoon pure peppermint extract
2 ounces semi sweet chocolate, melted and cooled
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
mini chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line muffin tin with paper liners or spray with non-stick cooking spray.

2. In the bowl of a stand mixer or a large bowl with a hand mixer, add the cake and pudding mixes, sour cream, oil, eggs, vanilla and water. Mix on medium speed for about 2 minutes until all ingredients are well combined and the batter is smooth. Stir in the Andes Crème de Menthe baking chips.

3. Using a large scoop distribute the batter between 24 muffin wells; about 3 tablespoons of batter per well.

4. Bake in preheated oven for 18-23 minutes or until the tops of the cakes spring back when lightly touched. Allow cupcakes to cool inside muffin tins for about 10 minutes.

5. Remove cupcakes from muffin tins and allow to fully cool on a wire rack. Once cupcakes are cool, prepare your frosting.

FOR THE FROSTING

1. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter on medium-high speed for about 5 minutes.

2.Turn the mixture down to low speed and gradually add in the confectioners' sugar until it is completely incorporated. Add in vanilla and heavy cream. Turn the mixer back up to medium-high speed and beat the mixture for about 3-4 minutes or until light and fluffy.

4. Remove half of the frosting from the mixer bowl and set aside. Add a tiny amount of green gel dye to the remaining frosting (I used Wilton Leaf Green). Turn the mixer on and fully incorporate the dye. Slowly add more dye until you achieve a nice minty green color. Stir in peppermint extract.

5. Remove the mint frosting from the mixing bowl and set aside. Add the other half of the frosting back into the bowl of your stand mixer. Add in the cooled, melted chocolate and cocoa powder. Mix until fully incorporated.

6. For the two-toned effect, I used this method from GoodLife Eats. You can also carefully layer the two colors into the piping bag, but I find Katie's method to be much easier and cleaner.

7. Pipe the frosting onto the cooled cupcakes and garnish with mini chocolate chips.

P-Party (Personal Progress Party)

So last Wednesday the Mia Maids had a P-Party, and at a P-Party you must you must wear as many things you can think of that start with a "P." So, what I did was get my purple jeans, and over those jeans I wore three purple and pink socks on each leg. Over my pants I wore my pink zebra pajamas. Up top I wore a shirt with big purple flowers, and over that I wore a solid pink shirt, a big pink belt, four pink bracelets and to top it off I wore my purple boots. I was making up for my very first Beehive group activity where I wore probably only one thing that was pink. Anyway, enough about what I wore, lets talk about the activity. The different foods we ate were pizza, popcorn, sour patch kids, pineapple juice, and more. When we weren't socializing we were do our personal progress, and when we were done we went home; it was a lot more fun than it sounds though.

Cookies and Camp

Sorry that took a while, anyway...

After it had lightly snowed, Sister Stacey texted everybody to tell them that our once at the park activity, was now at her house. She also asked me the Sunday before that day, Wednesday, to make some cookies for everybody, other girls, and leaders were going to bring other homemade goods. When  it came time my sister and I were out the door. Sister Kasper, as I will so call her, offered to take us, but I kindly refused and said, "No thank you I have this to ride." (My wave-board) When I almost reach the park I realized that I forgot something, my cookies. I raced home and grab my cookies and ran out the door this time grabbing my longboard instead of my wave-board and raced down to the park. Before I reach the park I saw girls going into sister Stacey's house. I then decided to switch my destination from the park to Sister Stacy's house. When I walked up my longboard to the porch brother Stacy told me to just walk it in and go downstairs. I put my cookies on the counter while everybody was looking at me and just walked to my friend who were standing next to the wall. They just smiled at me and went back to listening to the instructions. After we got our food we sort of gathered in a circle, and well, just talked. Our leaders started to hand out Twizzlers (licorice) to pull apart. We learned three different ways to tie a knot for camp, plus we got to take a fun test also on camp which if one were to get the answer right they got a prize, which may be helpful for camp. When everything was cleaned up my sister and I went home
